A wonderful day out is always a sure bet at Carlisle Racecourse, just 15 minutes away in the village of Blackwell. Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Lake District, this thoroughbred horse racing venue hosts flat racing in the summer and National Hunt racing in the winter.
It’s also home to one of the oldest horse races in existence: the Carlisle Bell. Traditionally held in June, the 7-furlong race results in the ornate little golden bell being presented ceremonially to the winner. You can find out more about Carlisle Racecourse on The Jockey Club website.
And if you’re already planning your next big day at the races, why not go the extra furlong with a night or two at Farlam Hall?
