Carlisle Castle
Carlisle Castle has stood proud, looking across the city for more than nine centuries. A stone keep medieval fortress located near the ruins of Hadrian's Wall, it was first built during the reign of William II in 1092. The castle has been witness to many turbulent episodes in British history, including the imprisonment of Mary, Queen of Scots by her cousin Elizabeth I.

Tullie House is a museum, art gallery and event space in the heart of Carlisle. As well as permanent exhibitions on areas such as the Roman Empire frontier and the Reivers, they also have a gallery for temporary exhibitions.
Carlisle Cathedral
Carlisle Cathedral started life as a Norman Priory Church in 1122, becoming a cathedral in 1133. This beautiful building features wonky Norman arches, a set of medieval choir stalls and a stunning choir ceiling, the work of Owen Jones, one of the greatest decorative artists of his day.
