Involvement in our Community

At Farlam Hall we love to be involved with our local community and are delighted to be the headline sponsor for the local Talkin Tarn regatta, run by one of the oldest rowing clubs in the north of England on a beautiful glacial lake only a few miles from the hotel.

Our Chef Patron, Hrishikesh Desai is thrilled to have been asked again to judge the home baking competition at our local Village Flower show in Hallbankgate. We are also a regular host venue for the local Hallbankgate WI.

We endeavour to use the best local producers where at all possible and make the most of seasonal produce.

Local Education Initiatives

In 2024, Hrishikesh Desai was appointed a Director of Carlisle College, a role he is keen to fulfil to contribute towards the shaping of the future workforce. For the same reasons, we also employ a local apprentice in the kitchen.

In July 2024, Farlam Hall was proud to be a part of a Teacher Encounter Event run in conjunction with Cumbria Careers Hub and Cumbria Tourism. A number of representatives from local schools and colleges were shown around the hotel and learned about the varied opportunities for young people in the hospitality sector. We are always keen to show that, although the kitchen is a fabulous career option, there are also opportunities in areas such as horticulture, front of house, marketing, accounts and housekeeping as well.

Local Tourism Initiatives

We are a member of Carlisle & the Borders Tourism Partnership set up to promote tourism in the area.

We believe in charitable giving and promote donations from events to Hospitality Action & The Princes Trust as well as donations to Cumbria Tourism.
