L'histoire de Pere Pinot

Champagne Drappier - L'histoire de Pere Pinot

Wednesday 10th July

The Drappier family tree can be traced back to the 17th century but this evening we will discover the story of ‘Pere Pinot’ and how his brave decision changed the face of Champagne.

In the 1930’s, Georges Collot, Michel Drappier’s maternal grandfather, decided he would be the first to plant the Pinot Noir grape in their vineyards in Urville, rather than the more widely used Chardonnay grape, giving him the nickname Pere Pinot or Old Man Pinot.  A decision that would prove all the sceptics wrong as this grape variety now represents 70% of the Drappier vineyard and the distinct character has been a firm favourite of many over the years, including the great figure of French history, Charles de Gaulle.

Join us at 6.00pm for Canapes served with a glass of Champagne, before you are seated in our opulent Cedar Tree Restaurant to indulge in an exquisite 5 course tasting menu created by Michelin starred Hrishikesh Desai and his team of award-winning chefs.  Our partners for this event, Berkmann Wine Cellars, have used their expert knowledge to pair the perfect Drappier Champagne with each course. Coffee and petit fours will finish the evening, along with a goody bag prior to your departure.
